  • Pistol Australia provides the means for members to learn to handle pistols safely and competently in a controlled and competitive environment.
  • Pistol Australia, provides a system of graded competitions that caters to the local club shooter as well as, national and international competitors.
  • Pistol Australia provides the National Referee Council programs to ensure that competitive target shooting matches are held according to the required standards.  Whether for the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Metallic Silhouette (IMSSU), International 1920 Match (NRA), WA 1500 Match (WA1500) or for the Pistol Australia Service Pistol and Black Powder matches.  These standards ensure fair and equitable opportunities in competition anywhere in Australia and overseas.  They also ensure that those who do achieve entry to national or international teams do so knowing that they have been properly trained and will not face unnecessary stress through not knowing the rules and procedures properly.
  • Pistol Australia, under the standing sub-committee of the National Referee Council, provides the opportunity for members to pursue a path to officiate at local, State, National and International level. Pistol Australia provides the National Coaching Council that in turn provides the coaching and systems that are needed to give members the opportunity to progress with their marksmanship right from club level up to Olympic standard if they so choose.
  • Pistol Australia under the standing sub-committee of the National Coaching Council provides the opportunity for members to obtain nationally accredited coaching qualifications in shooting at all levels.
  • Pistol Australia through the Pistol Australia Train-On Squad (PATS) provides members the opportunity, funding, coaching and development support to progress to the elite level of pistol shooting in Australia and internationally.
  • Pistol Australia, through the National Coaching Council, provides a Junior Development pathway for young shooting athletes to learn and develop under the guidance of internationally renowned coaches.
  • Pistol Australia liaises with Federal Government bodies to ensure members are treated fairly in firearm matters and in particular negotiated the retention of members’ pistols for competitive use.
  • Pistol Australia provides annual Open National Championships in ISSF, Metallic Silhouette, Service Pistol, Black Powder, International 1920 Match and WA1500 Match for the competitive member.
  • Pistol Australia provides an International postal competition, the Bill Perreau Memorial Postal Championship (BPMPC) for ISSF, Black Powder and Service Pistol Match disciplines.
  • Pistol Australia is the only shooting association that has always provided funds for Australian and development teams to travel overseas to compete in International 1920 Match, Metallic Silhouette and ISSF competitions.  Pistol Australia ensures that members continue to have a pathway to elite competition in this area and as a direct result, Australian pistol shooters continue to justify retention of the pistols needed for these events.
  • Pistol Australia, through the National Referee Council, adopt international rules as necessary and write compatible rules for the correct running of matches in Australia.
  • Pistol Australia provides members with a National Office and representation in the National Capital, Canberra, to deal with issues as they arise.
  • Pistol Australia provides experienced persons to help members with any aspect of pistol shooting in Australia.
  • Pistol Australia provides members with the opportunity to visit and shoot at hundreds of clubs in Australia and overseas.
  • Pistol Australia provides the justification for members’ pistol ownership by fielding competitors and teams in the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and other like international events.
  • Pistol Australia is managed by a team of elected representatives as well as by delegates from every State and Territory, thus ensuring that all State and Territories have an opportunity to contribute to the direction taken by Pistol Australia.
  • Pistol Australia provides up-to-date articles and information relative to PA and the sport of target pistol shooting via the Australian Pistol Shooters’ Bulletin, which is currently published 5 times a year.
