Pistol Australia Air Pistol Competitions

About

The original purpose of the Pistol Australia Air Pistol Competition was to promote national interest at club and State level.  The competition consists of three (3) rounds and is based on teams of three (3) competitors from each club, however, a club can enter more than one team.  All team members must be capitated through their club to Pistol Australia and the competition must be certified by an attending Pistol Australia judge.

Each team may consist of both men and women with scores for the first 40 shots of the men’s match being valid in calculating the team score.  The maximum possible team score is therefore 400 and the team aggregate 1200.

Team selection is based on the each team members’ grade to a maximum of ten points.  Grades must apply as at the time of entry and grade points are:

Master grade        =        5 points

A grade                  =        4 points

B grade                  =        3 points

C grade                  =        2 points

D grade                  =        1 point

In Round 1 the club team(s) scores are shot at a Zone or Open competition within their zone and the team having the highest aggregate score progresses to Round 2.  For clubs having entered more that one team, the team with the highest aggregate score is put forward to compete in Round 2.  If only one team is entered from a given club that teams’ aggregate score is compulsory for consideration in Round 2.

Teams may replace one member for Round 2 and Round 3 provided the grade restrictions are met, but at Stage 2 and 3 at least 2 members must be the nominated Round 1 team.

In Round 2 club teams within the State having shot the highest aggregate score at each Zone or Open competition compete to determine the team from each State to progress to Round 3.  The team with the highest aggregate score shot in Round 2 will progress to Round 3.

Round 3 is the final and is shot at the ISSF & PA National Championships each year.  Each team competes in a knock out competition having 2 stages.  Stage 1 consists of four teams in each of two relays whereby each competitor fires 10 shots to give a 30-shot aggregate.  Teams having shot the highest and second highest aggregate score proceed to State 2.  Tie breaks are determined by a one shot score from each team member.

Stage 2 consists of the two best two teams having the highest aggregate score from the two relays in Stage 1 i.e. 4 teams.  Each team member fires 5 shots to give a 15-shot aggregate.  As for Stage 1, tie breaks are determined by a one shot score from each team member.

All team members in Round 3 receive a winner’s certificate and the team with the highest aggregate score in that round is the winning team for whom the prize is a Walther Air Pistol.

Entry to the competition is free.
