Competitions

Pistol Australia is the premier target pistol shooting association in Australia.  Through its affiliation with Australian International Shooting Limited (AISL), Pistol Australia is the only Australian association with the mandate to field Australian Target Pistol Shooting Teams to the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games and other international target shooting competitions including International Shooting Sport Federation  (ISSF) World Cups, National Rifle Association (NRA) of America Bianchi Cup, NRA World Action Pistol Championships and the International Metallic Silhouette Shooting Union (IMSSU) World Cup.

Also through its association with AISL, Pistol Australia is affiliated with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) and the Oceania Shooting Federation.

Other Pistol Australia affiliations include the International Metallic Silhouette Shooting Union (IMSSU), World Association 1500 and the National Rifle Association (NRA) of America.

Pistol Australia therefore supports ISSF Matches, PA Matches, WA1500 Match, Metallic Silhouette Shooting and International 1920 Match and fields teams to represent Australia in related international competitions. Pistol Australia also conducts national championships in these events as well as the annual PA Air Pistol Competition.

WA1500 Match

At its basics, the ‘WA’ stands for World Association; the ‘1500’ is the maximum score (150 shots at a target with a 10-ring).  Pistol Australia has recently been successful in gaining affiliation with WA1500 and adopted the 150-shot match as a PA match.  While the international body lists three courses of fire, for the introduction of this match only the 150-shot match has been adopted; this is the ‘world championship’ match.  More...
