Going To Your First Competition

On arrival at the host range you will be required to ‘check in’.  For an open or zone competition, this may be simply a matter of signing the attendance book and proceeding to Equipment Control.

For a major competition such as a State or National Championship there will be a Registration Desk where you will be issued with your Start Number and any other required information.

You will be issued with an Equipment Control Card either with your information pack received from the Registration Desk or at Equipment Control.  On this you enter the details of the pistol(s) you will be using at the competition.

On arrival at the Equipment Control, present your Control Card, with details of the pistol(s) already completed.  Present your unloaded pistol(s) and (magazine/s) so that the examination of the pistol/s can proceed.

Before competition, your pistol(s) will be checked for compliance with the applicable regulations.

For 25m competitions, your pistols will be checked for overall size by having it fit within the control box.  The 25m control box is 300 x 150 x 50mm.

For 10m competitions, your pistols will be checked for overall size by having it fit within the control box.  The 10m control box is 420 x 150 x 50mm.

For 50m competitions, there is no limit on the size of the pistol.

For 10m and 25m competitions, the overall weight of the pistol will be checked.  The maximum weights allowed are;

10m Pistol                    1500g

For the 25m matches of Rapid Fire, Sport Pistol, Centre Fire and Standard Pistol + 1400g, incl a magazine

50m Pistol                      No weight limit

For 10m, Rapid Fire, Sport Pistol, Centre Fire and Standard Pistol, the trigger weight will be checked;

25m Rimfire Pistols           1000g minimum

25m Centre Fire Pistol       1360g minimum

The grip of your pistol will be checked to see that the applicable regulations are met.  To carry out this check you will hold the unloaded pistol in your normal firing stance.  The pistol MUST BE UNLOADED and ONLY POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION!

Additional checks on items such as sight radius, curvature of the grip, etc. will be carried out as applicable to the event.

After the pistol/s have passed all the checks, the Control Officer/s will sign the Control Card.  The top copy must be produced on demand when you are at your firing point for the competition.  The second copy will remain at Equipment Control.

The final step is to affix an approval sticker to the pistol(s).
